Privacy policy
GPS Map Camera takes photos and videos and stamps location details onto them. It works offline, it has no account, and we operate no server. Your photos, videos and settings stay on your device. We cannot see them, and we could not retrieve them if we wanted to.
A small amount of data does leave your device, and all of it goes to Google — to turn coordinates into a street address, to draw the in-app map, and to show ads.
Each case is described below.
What stays on your device, always
- Your photos and videos, including the location stamp burned into them and the location written into their EXIF data. They are saved to your device's gallery, in the app's own album.
- Your stamp templates, custom fields, project names and presets.
- Your settings — language, theme, units, coordinate format, file-name pattern.
- Your capture history as shown in the in-app gallery.
None of this is uploaded. There is no cloud backup and no sync. If you uninstall the app or clear its storage, the app's own records are gone; photos already saved to your gallery remain, because they are yours.
What leaves your device
Your location, to resolve a street address
When the app shows or stamps a street address, it sends your coordinates to Google's geocoding service, which returns the address. **This happens only when an address is needed, and not at all when you are offline** — the app then says so plainly rather than showing a blank line.
Your coordinates are also used to draw the in-app map and to place the pin you can drag when correcting a location.
You can use the app without this. Location permission is optional: you can enter or correct a position manually, and you can stamp photos you already have.
Advertising data
The app shows banner ads through Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK uses your device's advertising ID and derives an approximate location from your network connection. Before any personalised advertising, you are asked for consent through Google's consent dialog, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time from the app's settings.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's own settings, under Privacy → Ads.
Diagnostics
The Google Mobile Ads SDK reports basic app launch and diagnostic information to Google. This happens regardless of your advertising choice, because it is how the SDK reports its own health.
Analytics
The app uses Google's Firebase Analytics. It records anonymous in-app events such as which screens are opened, and it is subject to the same consent choice as advertising. It never records the content of your photos, videos or text fields.
When you send feedback
If you use Send feedback in the app's settings, your own email app opens a message to us. It includes the app version, your device model, Android version and app language, so we can look into a problem. You can read and delete any of that before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. We use what you send only to reply and to fix the app.
Permissions, and why each is asked for
| Permission | Why | If you refuse |
| **Camera** | To take the photo or video you are stamping. | The camera screen cannot work. You can still stamp photos you already have. |
| **Location** (precise and approximate) | To put your position on the stamp and on the map. | The app works: enter a position manually, or stamp an existing photo. |
| **Microphone** | Only to record sound in a video, and only asked the first time you record one. | Video records silently. |
The app asks for nothing else. It has no access to your contacts, messages, call logs, files outside its own album, or any other app's data. It does not run in the background and does not start itself when your device boots.
Children
This app is intended for adults doing field and site documentation work. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your data rights, and an honest limit
Because the app has no account and no server, there is nothing held about you anywhere for us to hand over or delete. That means:
- Access and portability — everything is already on your device. Your photos are in your gallery; you can copy, export or share them at any time.
- Deletion — deleting a photo in the app deletes it from your device. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes everything else it kept.
- Advertising — reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings, and change your consent choice in the app at any time.
- A deletion request to us would have nothing to act on. We are not being evasive: we hold no record of you to delete. Data handled by Google under the sections above is governed by Google's own policies, linked below.
Third-party services
These Google services receive data as described above. Their handling is governed by their own policies:
